Gold Survey: Solid Majority Of Survey Participants See Higher Gold Prices Next Week...

Gold Survey:

Friday March 22, 2013 12:08 PM
Gold prices are expected to climb next week, with expectations that the yellow metal may catch a bid as the situation regarding a possible bailout for Cyprus could attract safe-haven buying.
In the World News Gold Survey, out of 33 participants, 28 responded this week. Of those 28 participants, 22 see prices up, while four see prices down, and two are neutral. Market participants include bullion dealers, investment banks, futures traders, money managers and technical-chart analysts. For those participants who see higher prices next week, nearly all of them cited the situation in Cyprus and whether or not European officials will agree to bail out the near-bankrupt country as the reason for their higher calls. Many expect that Cyprus will get some sort of bailout, which will support both gold and the euro currency.

Carlos Perez-Santalla, precious metals broker at PVM Futures, echoed what many other participants said was another bullish factor for gold. “Although the Cyprus situation has not driven demand up yet, the feeling of insecurity of monetary assets by many Europeans will affect demand soon,” he said.
The majority of participants are bullish, but there a few respondents who said gold’s limited reaction to the Cyprus news this week doesn’t bode well for the metal. They said they were surprised that given news that a eurozone country was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, gold wasn’t able to take out recent highs, which is troubling.

“The key number for gold is $1,625. That’s big resistance. Unless we can close above it, the trend remains down,” said Kevin Grady, president, Phoenix Futures and Options.
The two participants who are neutral on gold said there are too many unknowns about the Cyprus situation to give an accurate read on where prices might go next week.

Billionaire Hedge Funds Most Recent Moves: SPDR Gold Trust, Apple Inc., Family Dollar Stores, Inc., Dollar Tree, Inc.

After reviewing hundreds of the quarterly filings from some of the world’s biggest and best Billionaire hedge funds this weekend, a few investment trends have emerged.
1) Be Cautious of owning Gold- Both George Soros and Billionaire Louis Bacon of Moore Capital substantially reduced their holdings in the SPDR Gold Trust (NYSEARCA:GLD). Moore Capital sold off their entire position in GLD and George Soros reduced his position in GLD by 55%, signaling that a lot of the smart money is moving out of Gold.
2) The Majority of Billionaire Hedge Fund sold their position in Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) this is not surprising as the stock has dropped more than 30% from its peak last quarter. I still think based on Billionaire Smart Money Flows that Apple (AAPL) still has more room to fall, so be caution on Apple as well.

3) Three top Billionaire Hedge Funds, Lone Pine Capital, Farrallon Capital and Tiger Consumer all took major positions in the “Dollar Stores”, both Family Dollar Stores, Inc. (NYSE:FDO) and Dollar Tree, Inc. (NASDAQ:DLTR). This to me is the most significant move I found as both stocks Family Dollar and Dollar tree are near their 52 week lows. Furthermore as I have explained before it is very bullish, based on my backtesting and research, when Billionaire Hedge Fund Managers acquire or add to their stakes in companies that have declined or are near a 52 week low, and that is the case here with both DLTR and FDO.

Obama Warns Republicans on Debt Limit

WASHINGTON—The next phase in the bitter, two-year-long battle between the White House and congressional Republicans began in earnest Monday, with President Barack Obama and GOP leaders digging in over spending and the debt limit.

Mr. Obama, speaking at a hastily called news conference, sought to blunt any momentum gathering around congressional Republican plans to use the vote on raising the debt limit as leverage in coming budget fights, saying it is "irresponsible" and "absurd" to even consider defaulting on U.S. debt in an attempt to extract spending cuts from Democrats.

The president said the threat of default already is harming ...

Most U.S. Stocks Fall as Apple Slump Tempers Dell’s Rally

Most U.S. stocks fell, after a two- week gain in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index, as a slump in Apple (AAPL) Inc. tempered Dell Inc. (DELL)’s rally on buyout talks.

Apple, the most valuable company, sank 3.8 percent on reports it curbed iPhone production on weak demand. Dell surged 13 percent as two people with knowledge of the matter said the company is in discussions with private-equity firms.

Gold drops on stalemate in U.S. budget talks

Precious-Gold dropped on Tuesday trading on renewed worries regarding the so-called U.S. fiscal cliff as officials did not reach a solution yet, thereby threatening both U.S. and global recovery.
The shiny metal slipped for a third straight session to trade around $1704.66 an ounce, where it found support at $1701.66, which represents the Simple Moving Average (SMA) 100 level on the daily charts, after it fell from a high of $1717.35.
The trading range for today is expected among the key support at $1690.00 and the key resistance now at $1730.00.
Still, the main director of market sentiment is the U.S. fiscal cliff; it threatens the world`s biggest economy of falling back into recession if $607 billion of tax hikes and spending cuts start in January.
Yesterday, House of Republicans suggested a $2.2 trillion deficit-cutting plan, yet White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer replied that it “does not meet the test of balance.”
With the sluggish progress seen in U.S. budget talks the tensions are heightening and weigh on shares and commodities.
Gold is now moving with the U.S dollar as they both face downside pressure of the little progress in the budget negotiations.
The dollar index plummeted today to record a low of 79.80 after opening today`s trading at 79.89.
On the other hand, the euro is resuming its upside direction to six-week high versus the greenback after Greece said yesterday it would spend 10 billion euros to buy-back bonds via a modified Dutch auction.
Euro area finance ministers expressed their confidence that Greece will handle a successful bond buyback on Dec. 7, lifitng up expectations the debt crisis is abating.
Later in the day, European Union finance ministers will meet in Brussels to continue their pursuit to ease the three-year-old debt crisis.
Crude oil for January`s delivery inched down to $88.68 per barrel compared with the day`s opening level of $88.90.
Among other precious metals, silver retreated to $33.28 from the day`s opening of $33.32, platinum ticked down to $1592.75 from $1594.25, and palladium inched up to $678.60 from $678.40.
